Feel free to double dip

Have you ever seen anything so cute?! Courtesy of Martha Stewart, I bring you the brilliant idea of serving 7-layer dip in individual jars. A lot of work? Maybe. But so pretty! And it allows everyone to snack easily, no matter where they are sitting to watch the game. For this recipe, be sure to use the short fat jars rather than the tall skinny ones.

7-layer dip is an Arkansas classic, appearing at just about every cookout and watch party. While the basic recipe is simple – just layer beans, cheese, guacamole, sour cream, chopped tomatoes, chives, and jalapenos in a glass dish. I love to add a few additional elements. I guess that makes mine 9-layer dip or 12-layer dip or whatever it turns out to be that day. I mix a packet of hot taco seasoning into the sour cream, add a layer of cooked ground beef (made with taco seasoning according to package directions) or shredded chicken (pulled off a grocery store rotisserie chicken), and add a layer of drained canned corn. For a pretty presentation, I top the whole thing with shredded cheese and sprinkle with black olives and pickled jalapeƱo slices (always leave these on top so that people can pick around them).
