Well . . . at least he wants you to look good at the game.

Cheesy goodness!
Whether you're tailgating or hosting a watch party this weekend, it's the perfect opportunity to whip up a batch of Arkansas cheese dip. And if your secret recipe's a real winner, be sure to enter it in the First Annual World Cheese Dip Championship, which will be held October 9th at Dickey-Stephens Park in North Little Rock. Learn more at www.cheesedip.net
Dear OPI
You have so many fabulous red polishes with off-the-wall names, so why no "Woo Pig Sooie Scarlet" or "Really Really Razorback?"
You've done collections based on India, Russia, and even the latest Shrek movie, but if you really want to sell some nail polish you need an SEC schools team spirit collection!

In the Bag
The Hogs may not have this weekend's game against Alabama "in the bag" just yet, but I want to know: what will be in your bag on Saturday? What are your game day purse essentials?
A few of mine:
Hair elastics
Band-aids
Cash
A rain jacket
Beer coozies
Flip flops
a beverage*
*if you prefer to tailgate with mixed cocktails rather than beer, I recommend pre-mixing a few in plastic bottles, such as individual-serving orange juice bottles, and bringing them in your purse. Just don't try to bring them into the game!
What will you have in your purse this weekend at Razorback Stadium?
Make sure to pack a camera, and send me your game day pics!

If you love red plaid shirts for game day
Push the envelope a little by pairing this red plaid coat with a simple black dress or black top and dark jeans. Top it off with tall leather boots, and you're set for fall games.
Hilary Radley coat, on sale now (46% off!) at bluefly.com
*I hope this goes without saying, but don't wear this plaid coat with your red plaid shirt!

Pig coin necklace
Only in Arkansas will you see a serious post about pig jewelry - but here it is!

Alabama game outfits - part 1
According to the weather.com 10-day forecast, Saturday's game at Razorback Stadium should be in 70's, dipping down into the 50's at night, with a 40% chance of rain.
Well, don't let a little rain keep you away from this game! Simply dress in layers and be sure to wear pieces that will survive if they get a little wet.
MICHAEL Michael Kors cranberry trench with removable hood - seems designed for football season!
A long-ish white tank or tee.
Dark wash straight or skinny jeans. I actually recommend wearing an inexpensive pair of jeans on game day, especially a rainy game day. I like the Diva skinny jeans from Old Navy.
Tory Burch jelly Reva flats - just like the leather classics, but perfect for rainy days - you don't have to worry if they get wet!
Add a little fun with these pig studs from etsy.

All great relationships are based on compromise
That includes the happy marriage of style and tailgating. For a girl in the South, it's a problem we face every year. Dressing up, doing our hair and makeup, and wearing heels are part and parcel to our cultural identity. As is tailgating on game day. But the two just don't mix as well as you might hope. While I've definitely done it myself, I don't recommend tailgating in your most amazing stilettos or platforms. Trust me, you will suffer in those beautiful shoes. Flats are a great option - cute and comfortable. But when your outfit calls for something more, compromise with a cute pair of wedges.
For those not afraid of a little extra height, these Maddy's Nance wedges will get you through a few more games while the weather is still so warm.
These Restricted Bonsai wedges will add interest to a simple red top and jeans.
TOMS cranberry canvas wedges are so comfy, and the deep red color will take you through early fall.

Warning, today's game is a big deal
As you know, today's game against Georgia is, as our Vice-President would say, a big f****** deal. Emotions will inevitably run high, and it's easy to get so wrapped up in each play that you forget the bigger picture. Football in the South is more than a tradition, it's an identity. Game days, watch parties, wearing red and calling the hogs, it's all woven into who we are as Arkansans. So, no matter what happens against Georgia, take the time today to snap a smiling photo with a friend, grill up an amazing burger, or teach a toddler to call the hogs. Take a look at these game day photos from Nikki and Paul Parnell - don't you just feel that collective community pride, happiness, and hospitality that makes game day so much fun? This is what game day is really all about.
Surprise - you're hosting a watch party!
It's almost game time. So what do you do if your husband just surprised you with the news that he's invited friends over to your house to watch the game? Keep it simple and easy. Call ahead and order takeout (I like chicken nugget platters from Chick-Fil-A or bulk barbeque from Whole Hog). Send your husband to pick that up, along with a few cases of beer and some kind of easy dessert (ice cream with brownie bites and caramel sauce is fun and festive). In the meantime, speed clean the house. Focus on the bathroom, the kitchen, and the living room floor (where people will likely be sitting to watch the game). Throw on a red dress, have a beer, and enjoy yourself.*
*And sweetly explain to your hubby that the next time he forgets to tell you that he's invited people over, you're going shopping for the day and he's on his own to host the crowd.

Sorry for the long absence
Over the past two days, I moved to D.C.! It's only for three months (for work). And the fact that I'll be away from Arkansas for football season made me think about all the Arkansas fans in cities across the country (and around the world) who gather every weekend to watch the game. In DC, we have a great alumni group that hosts watch parties for every televised game. If you find yourself stuck in another city on game day, use the Arkansas Alumni Association website to find a watch party near you.
By the way, for those in D.C. this weekend, we'll be watching the Georgia game at Trusty Bar on Penn.

It may be called White House Black Market
but they apparently sell cute red shoes.
Red suede cut-out heel
Just a note: These shoes really aren't made for tailgating, but by all means rock them at your next watch party.
